New Blog!

Hello smiling visitors! Please visit the new Auslander Blog! This one's not going to be updated for a while.

New Auslander Blog! (http://auslandergame.wordpress.com/)

Unfortunately it's still under construction. Don't expect anything fancy for a little bit.

Some More, I suppose

It's been a few months but I haven't forgot about you Auslander!

Well, to tell you the truth, time is of the essence, and as usual I have none of it.

On the bright side I started work on the enemies again and I'm going to commision someone to do the map.

So I guess things are looking up just as long as I can keep updating regularly.

P.S. Don't do drugs.

Auslander Story Line V2

You play as Auslander, a young homeless orphan living on the sunny isle of Woricessing. You're only companion is your dog, Einsam, who has accompanied you since you were just but a tyke. One day, while relaxing in the field, a strange man appears. Faster than you can counter, he steals your dog, and just as fast as he appeared, he disappears. The only lead he left behind was a red sash and the burning image of his smiling mask in your consciousness. Confused, miserable and defeated, you rest your head into your hands and sob like a baby penguin.

But you won't give up that easy! You stowaway on a ship to the mainland, McKingroh! You're sure you'll find the culprit there! Something tells you this is the right direction to go in...

You arrive shortly afterward in the port town of Oiseau (Wa-zoo) , looking stylish and ready for adventure. Only, you have no money, friends, places to stay, or leads to where the mysterious kidnapper could be. But wait, friend! All is not lost! You soon make friends with the local shopkeeper Orbit and he not only lends you some traveling equipment for free, he points you in the direction of the shadiest places of McKingroh! Armed with only a few instruments of defense, some foods, and a tent, you set out on a journey to find your beloved dog!

SPOILERS BELOW

Once you get to the second level, Redwood, you'll be confronted by a gang of slightly irritable Kobolds and their godfather, Don Kobold. Just as the fearless warlord prepares to bust you up, you're saved by either 1) A powerful female knight or 2) a beautiful maiden of magic. Afterward she talks of her kidnapped cat,
Freund, and before you know it you're traveling together.

The third level's boss is Dire Smiler. That's not really a plot point, I just wanted to get that out there.

Much much later on in the game, once you've found out the identity of your kidnapper, you break into his lair, the Den of Mischief. Once you defeat him, you discover of his evil plan to create the ultimate homunculus (Composed from all sorts of different animals from around the globe) capable of gathering all the useless knick-knacks in the world...By Force. In the Heart of Mischief, you must first fight your mutated dog, which has now melded into other mutated animals to form a gigantic behemoth of mindless rage. Then you must fight the refined form of the beast, a creature so frightening it inspires fear into even the bravest of man...Chewy Douglass.

After you beat the final boss some stuff happens...I haven't really worked out that part.

But that's what I've come up with so far.

Project Suspended?

As it turns out, the project might be suspended for quite some time.

If you (our sole reader) haven't noticed yet, Flag Staff hasn't posted for awhile. This is because he's in Malaysia. At boarding school. And probably won't be able to do too many images.

No images == No game.

Sorry.

(And to Flag Staff, whenever you're ready, I am)

Yo

My name is Eric - I use the username "spearfish" whenever possible, so you might have seen me around on the internet. But probable not.

I'm at camp until mid august, so don't expect much from me. I'm only posting because D-Shaft is yelling at me to contribute something to the blog.

Anyways, I'm the rad programmer behind Auslander. It'll be great. Just wait.

Maybe if this goes well (which it has so far) I'll work with D-Shaft and sba in the future for more projects, which all you little Auslander fans can eagerly lap up.

For now,
Eric

Vomit

Oh dear. This one is a new low in ugly. Composed from Human Tongues and Feet, Scorpions and giant Tortoises, this creature has the worst traits of each, including an aggressive personality, a poisonous tongue, and a truly revolting foot fetish. About 4/50.

Human Fist Abomination
Sand-Based Homunculus, Strong Attack and Defense
Pretty Low Speed, Weak to Magic

Beta Storyline

An evil wizard opens a gateway to an evil land. The hero, you, are walking in the park and your stupid dog runs inside the gateway. You really love this dog so you go running in after him. The evil wizard captures your doggy and is using him for experiments, so he uses monsters to keep you out of his lair. After you beat all the monsters your dog is chemically enhanced and acts as the last boss. Beat the dog to death.

Anyway it's still a beta story, but it works for the time being.

Straight outta Spore

Spore Creature Creator is pretty kick ass. I can't lie, it's where I got the idea for this little guy. This makes 3/50.
All-Seeing Mouth
Strong Cyclops, Average Defense, Pathetic Speed
Can attack twice in one turn

Starting a New Check.

A lot of the world of Auslander has already been drawn, the quality of which ranges from awful to bad. My personal goal is 50 enemies and 2-3 bosses, so I claim this picture as 1/50 for the Enemies.

Rogan Thiefy
Weak Thief, steals items
Fast, low defense and offense

Genesis of the Enigma

Marlin's pitch of Auslander, made way back when in February of 2008. Hopefully this will give you an idea of the kind of game we have in mind for Auslander.

Storyline:

You start out, young Auslander, as a lad trying to rescue his dog. You really like this dog, and are willing to fight all sorts of demons to rescue him.

You will be fighting ten different enemies, then going after the boss who has your dog. Hopefully your dog doesn't become dinner!

After you defeat the first, fourth, seventh, and tenth enemies you have a chance to make purchases from the store. These can be anything from weapons to medicine.

As you progress, the enemies you face will be harder, and the items you can purchase become more advanced. Once you defeat the boss and rescue your dog, your score is: Gold + (Inventory Value / 3) + (Experience / 5)

Battle breakdown:
On the battle screen, you and your opponent will be displayed. These opponents will be animals or something. Whatever D-Shaft wants to draw. You will have five battle related stats: Attack, defense, speed, magic points, and hit points. Your opponent will have four stats: Attack, defense, speed, and hit points.

The battle order will be determined by speed --- using the mt_rand function. You have four options on your turn: Use Magic, Attack, Heal, or Run. Attack and Run will always be available. If you have magic points left, you can use magic. If you have medicine, you can heal.

All equipment bonuses will be factored into attack or defense power --- e.g., if you have an attack of five, and a sword that adds two, your attack is seven.

Damage is calculated by the attack power minus the defense power. If this is less than two, either one or two is the damage taken.

You can try to run if you feel you are going to lose a battle. This is useful, because then you don't take damage --- and move closer to a store where you can buy medicine. A random number is taken between zero and the speed value for each character. If your number is higher than your opponents, then you succeed and run away. E.g., if you have a speed of five, and your opponent has a speed of two, then you get a random number 0-5 (let's say 1). Then your opponent gets a random number 0-2 (let's say 2). In this example, you don't escape, and that's your turn. In case of a tie, there will be a reroll.

Healing uses a medicine. You can use one medicine per turn, healing either five HP or 20% of your maximum health, rounded up. Medicine is bought at the store, but you start with three. Meds also restore two magic points.

Magic is a very powerful attack, but you have a limited number of magic points. Each time you use magic, it takes up a magic point. Let's say you have a magic rating of eight. You can have a maximum of nine magic points (magic rating + 1). When you attack someone with magic (rating eight), it's as if you did a regular attack on them, which had a strength of twelve (magic * 1.5; rounded up).

At the end of each battle, you gain a random amount of gold based on the enemy level, and if you have room within your max amount, gain 3 HP and 2 MP (magic points).

Once you level up, which will happen about four times in the game, you have two "free" points to add to your attack / defense / magic / speed, AND one random stat is bumped up by one. Leveling up your magic gives a MP; leveling up max health gives a HP.

The enemies are mindless blobs.... they'll always attack you!
That's an interesting concept - suppose the supreme evils have infested everybody's minds --- that would explain why people are always attacking you --- and why they are so bloodthirsty.

Art Requests:
Hey D-Shaft, master artist! SBA, you reading me? You guys are the artists. I can program this thing, but can't draw to save my life. Here's what I'm requesting drawings for :

Also, I think it'd be cool for the user to choose their starting character. Multiple character drawings would be great.

Items (0/14)
Enemies (4/30) + several needing retouching
Bosses (0/2)
Characters (3/3)

Take your time on these, I just need to know that the rest of the post has been approved, and that these drawings are coming, then I'll get to work.

~~~
PLEASE give me feedback!
Got it? Good, 'cause here's where the fun starts.
